Them Crooked Vultures to finally debut

It’s official — Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones have finally decided to team up for a long rumored collaboration. Now officially named Them Crooked Vultures, the group is set to debut shortly after Lollapalooza, August 9th at Chicago’s Metro. Etix opened up ticket sales today at 10AM, and they have since sold out.

Very little is known about the group. The current logo features the Foo Fighter’s “FF” insignia, JPJones’ symbol from the Led Zeppelin IV album and “Spermy Q” is representing for Mr. Homme. Grohl originally mentioned the band back in 2005, stating:

“The next project that I’m trying to initiate involves me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar and John Paul Jones playing bass. That’s the next album. That wouldn’t suck.”

Four years after this interview and the supergroup is not only formally announced, but playing their first show in only three days. The three musicians are all incredibly talented, and while Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones are certainly more well known than Josh Homme, the trio is sure to set the music industry buzzing come August 9th.

If you check out the official Them Crooked Vultures website, you can input your email and get links to the band’s Twitter, MySpace and Facebook pages. Very few details are given about the band, other than confirming that Homme, Jones and Grohl are all involved. Rolling Stone points out that we don’t know who the vocalist of the group is — but come midnight August 9th, all will be revealed.

I’m a huge fan of Grohl and of course you can’t hate on John Paul Jones. I’ve never really listened to the Queens of the Stone Age, but they have a huge following and Josh Homme is certainly a damn fine guitarist…. it’ll be interesting to see what the band sounds like. I’ll keep you posted.
