Billy Corgan released a statement from the Smashing Pumpkins website late last week, indicating that he is now the only original member of the Smashing Pumpkins left.

“The SMASHING PUMPKINS’ guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group. Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998). Corgan will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring.”

Jimmy Chamberlin was the only original member to play with Mr. Corgan on their 20th anniversary tour. Billy Corgan is certainly intent on keeping the Smashing Pumpkins’ name alive, although their last few releases have been decisively un-Pumpkin like.

More information may be released at a later time. For more Smashing Pumpkins updates, check out their (his) official website: SmashingPumpkins.com.
