After all of the trouble surrounding Aerosmith’s last tour, it appears that the group may not be happy with lead singer Steven Tyler. Joe Perry spoke out about things being tense between Tyler and the group, and now rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford has said the group is considering replacing Steven Tyler with a new vocalist.

In an interview with Classic Rock magazine, Whitford stated that the group was set to hold meetings, probably without Tyler, in the next few weeks to discuss future plans. Whitford confirmed to the magazine that one direction the group was discussing was replacing Tyler with a new singer.

“I’m not sure how good that would look, it would largely depend on who we could get and who would want to do it. That’s big shoes to fill. Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him, he’s one of a kind. But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?” – Brad Whitford, Classic Rock magazine, Nov. 2009

It may just be because I’m young, but I’ve always assumed that Steven Tyler was a fairly irreplaceable part of Aerosmith. I know to my generation, Steven Tyler and Aerosmith are pretty much synonymous with one another, so it would be interesting to see what would happen if the group replaces him. I’ve never been a huge fan, but with 40 years together guys, maybe it would actually be better to break up and start a new band?
